This March 17th (4pm-7pm PST) IM4 will be hosting ‘Make a Music Video with WebVR’ Part 2 with VR instructor Nancy Lee. This workshop will include guest speakers Kiran Bhumber and Quinn Brander. Students will learn about non-linear immersive storytelling and spatial audio design. This will be the 2 out of 2 workshops focused on creating a 30s-1min music video using the online program A-Frame.

What is VR? It refers to a computer-generated simulation where a person can be completely immersed in a 3D environment.

Have you ever wondered about how a virtual reality environment is created online? Try out this online workshop using A-Frame. In this workshop students will be given an introduction to Virtual Reality, and get the chance to learn the basics on how to build an immersive environment through web VR and an introduction to sound design for immersive experiences.

We hope to see you at this immersive learning experience!

    • Ideally attended Part 1 of this workshop to learn the basic skills to HTML using A-frame.
    • Download and install a Da Vinci Resolve
    • Access to Wi-fi Internet, computer/laptop, and a webcam.

    VR Instructor
Nancy Lee 李南屏 is a Taiwanese-Canadian interdisciplinary media artist, curator, filmmaker, DJ and cultural producer. Their work stimulates and enlivens space, making a provocative statement about how inescapably interconnected we are with our surroundings. This notion of staging is a constant in Nancy’s work and underpins their projects, from their early work as a more traditional filmmaker, through their conception and planning of live events, and into the realms of XR, new media performance and installation, where their art practices continue to coalesce and evolve.

    Guest Speakers
Kiran Bhumber is an Indo-Canadian interdisciplinary media artist, composer, sound designer, performer and educator based in Vancouver, Canada. Kiran is interested in multi-channel and spatial audio arrangements and how the choreography of sound can influence the listeners notion of space, time and narrative. She is a co-director of INTER/MEDIATE, a media art educational festival focused on cultivating growth within Vancouver’s media art communities and empowering BIPOC and disabled communities with access to technical and soft-skill workshops, artist talks and collaborative opportunities. She is currently working with long-time collaborator Nancy Lee on a speculative-sci fi solo exhibition, UNION, exploring 3D scanning and printing, XR, interactive and immersive installations, scheduled for 2021 at the Richmond Art Gallery.

Quinn Brander is a graduate from the Centre for Digital Media and is a classically trained cellist whose passions reside in game design and sound in digital media. He has also scored, performed and recorded music for several independent short films, including Laura Stewart’s critically acclaimed Blobby. He is currently a game designer at Smoking Gun Interactive.
