    The IM4 lab, in collaboration with Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), invites you to attend the ‘IM4 XR Knowledge Gathering’, an exciting live webinar series. This webinar series features conversations among XR media creators, artists, and storytellers from Indigenous and culturally diverse communities.

    On Wednesday July 22nd at 5 pm pst Episode 7 will feature IM4 Matriarch Doreen Manuel, Casey Koyczan, and Travis Mercredi.

    Doreen Manuel is the sixth child of Grand Chief Dr. George Manuel and Marceline Manuel. Doreen is a graduate of the Aboriginal Film and Television Diploma Program (AFTP) at Capilano University and now the Director of the Indigenous Independent Digital Filmmaking Program at Capilano University. She has an extensive background working in First Nations education and community development in both rural and urban centers. Doreen comes from a long line of oral historians and factual storytellers from her First Nations traditional background. She is the recipient of the Governor General of Canada Medal Award for academic excellence for her studies in AFTP; and Women in Film & Television, Leadership in Education Award. She holds a MFA from the Film Department at UBC. 

    Casey Koyczan is a Tlicho Dene interdisciplinary artist from Yellowknife, NT, that implements culture and technology in his creations that have the ability to trigger numerous bodily senses by combining a variation of installation, sculpture, interactivity, new media, audio and performance. Koyczan has a Multimedia Production Diploma from Lethbridge College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Thompson Rivers University, and is now within his first year of MFA studies at the University of Manitoba where he continues to build on his knowledge and skills while travelling to fulfill his art and music careers. He is also a producer, actor, writer, teacher, workshop facilitator, and advocate for future generations of artists and musicians worldwide.

    Travis Mercredi is a Metis sound designer, musician, digital artist and producer from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. He has worked across mediums such as film, television, radio, theatre, installation art, 360 video, games and VR. Through the process of completing a degree in Computation Arts at Concordia University his practice has shifted focus to virtual reality and exploring its expressiveness and implications in the indigenous context.
