AR Artwork Statement:
The original Sky Blanket weaving was created between 2012-2014 and was based on an experience of the dissolution of time that resulted from learning to spin mountain goat wool, the original fibre used by our people. The three faces represent the past, present, and future, and their connection through art, and the lines represent bones or the skeleton of an art form. The figures in the back of the AR piece represent sky spirits in the shamanic art tradition and were sourced from a historical Haida tunic.
Artist Bio:
Jaad Kuujus (Meghann O'Brien) is an artist and weaver from the Northwest Coast of British Columbia. She is descended from the Haida / Kwakwaka'wakw / Irish, and has been traditionally trained by William White, Sherri Dick, Kerri Dick, and Donna Cranmer. Her work explores the intersection of Indigenous materials, worldview, and processes, and how they interact within the realm of fashion and the digital.
