Coming Soon! Mentoring for and by the Matriarchs Program
This Fall 2020 the Discovery Foundation and IM4 Lab presents, ‘Mentoring for and by the Matriarchs’ program (MFBM), free live online training/mentoring sessions for Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth who are interested in entering the tech field.
In the MFBM online sessions will get an introduction to augmented reality (AR) with the opportunity to create an AR project, with one or more designs made with the IM4 Lab technologist, offering this step-by-step development process. The session will be led by a Matriarch, IM4 creative technologist, and design specialist taking youth through the creative imagining and software processes that go into building an AR project. We will be using programs such as the Unity Engine, and Google Tilt Brush.
By the end the skills learned will include AR creation and development, photogrammetry, visual coding, photography and videography basics including framing. The content for the sessions are tailored to specific age groups from grades 8-12. There will be 2 sessions approximately 90 minutes each offered virtually over Zoom.
The goal of the MFBM program is to offer Indigenous youth support and training opportunities that bring more potential participants into XR (VR/AR/360) productions and a tech career building an Indigenized tech-ecosystem.
The MFBM mentoring sessions are geared towards supporting Indigenous youth, while open to all youth, who are thinking about pursing a digital media profession. The IM4 Matriarchs with years of experience working in the media field, and years of cultural leadership in Indigenous communities will mentor youth on pathways towards a digital media career.
If you know of youth interested in the upcoming MFBM program or you have questions you can email im4@ecuad.ca.
**Please note the date and time for the online sessions are yet to be announced.**
