IM4 Immersive Knowledge Transfer Series – Episode 6
The IM4 lab, in collaboration with Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), invites you to attend the ‘IM4 XR Knowledge Gathering’, an exciting live webinar series. This webinar series features conversations among XR media creators, artists, and storytellers from Indigenous and culturally diverse communities.
Episode 6 will feature IM4 Matriarch Tracey Kim Bonneau, Nyla Innuksuk, and Casey Koyczan.
Tracey Kim Bonneau is a member of the Syilx Nation/Okanagan, born and raised on the Penticton Indian Reserve in British Columbia, Canada. Tracey is a Matriarch with the IM4 Lab. Her advisory role is to build capacity in the world or VR and assist with building capacity in communities. Tracey is a multiple award winning veteran documentary Director/Writer/Producer with extensive experience in project management. Her expertise is building highly effective teams and creating multi-platform projects. Tracey’s work is known to be future-oriented with innovation. Her documentaries are known to be hard hitting and are currently being utilized by University of British Columbia (UBCO). Her company Of the Land Productions Inc. specializes in quality productions featuring Indigenous stories. Her most recent accomplishment is 26 episodes which currently air on APTN (Quest OutWest – Wild Food.)Tracey has in-depth experience as a journalist in print, radio and television.
Nyla Innuksuk is the founder of Mixtape. A writer for Marvel Comics, Innuksuk co-created the character of Snowguard, a teenage superhero from Pangnirtung, Nunavut. Most recently Nyla wrote and directed her first feature film titled Slash/Back, an alien invasion horror about a group of teen girls from the Arctic. In 2019 Innuksuk was named one of the top 5 To Watch by Playback Magazine. Working in mixed media allows Nyla to channel her passions for technology and genre storytelling among mediums that include interactive graphic novels, film, television and synthetic experiences. Originally from Igloolik, Nyla currently lives in Toronto and sits on the board of directors of Ontario Creates, and the Glenn Gould Foundation. In 2020, Innuksuk was asked by UN Women to represent Canada in discussing the future of emerging technologies in G7 countries.
Casey Koyczan is a Tlicho Dene interdisciplinary artist from Yellowknife, NT, that implements culture and technology in his creations that have the ability to trigger numerous bodily senses by combining a variation of installation, sculpture, interactivity, new media, audio and performance. Casey Koyczan discovered sculpture and installation within his BFA and acquired an aesthetic of “nature reclaiming architectural space” by utilizing earth materials to create large-scale visions that communicate elements of environmentalism, societal awareness and experimentation. His artwork now blends multiple mediums in order to bring his ideas to fruition. His artwork has been shown nationally and internationally, and has participated in many residencies, exhibits, festivals and collaboration projects in other parts of the world such as Finland, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, and The Netherlands. Koyczan has a Multimedia Production Diploma from Lethbridge College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Thompson Rivers University, and is now within his first year of MFA studies at the University of Manitoba where he continues to build on his knowledge and skills while traveling to fulfill his art and music careers. He is also a producer, actor, writer, teacher, workshop facilitator, and advocate for future generations of artists and musicians worldwide.
