IM4 offers workshops in A/R (Augmented Reality), V/R (Virtual Reality), 360 Video, and Unity.
- The workshops are delivered in Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced level format.
- Each workshop is two days in length, all equipment and materials are provided.
- It would be beneficial for students to have a basic working knowledge of computers.
- If you would like to strengthen your computer skills we recommend contacting our partners at First Nations Technology Council about their Foundations in Technology courses.
- Although there is no cost to attend, a requirement from our funders is that each student bring their Status Card and Social Insurance Number with them.
IM4’s goal is is to create a critical mass of Indigenous people working in XR.
A/R – Augmented Reality
A/R is the combination of data (images, text, sound) and real world environments. This blend enhances the experience of the user and is accessed via phone or tablet. Example: Pokemon GO
V/R – Virtual Reality
V/R is an artificial environment created by computer generated imagery with the intention of suspending the user’s belief and to foster user engagement. V/R environments are accessed via headsets such as Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. Example: Elder Scrolls – Skyrim VR
360 Video
360 is an immersive wrap-around video environment that is recorded in all directions at once allowing the user to control what direction they are observing. Most 360 videos can be accessed by phone apps or headsets like Oculus Quest. Example: VR360: Stranger Things
Unity Software
Unity is the computer software that brings many V/R, A/R, and interactive 360 projects to life. Currently, Unity’s 2018 version is what we utilize for student projects. Unity (personal) is free to download, develop and test with.
